Buna canals
The Buna channels on the Neretva River are a natural phenomenon created over a period of one million years. They are located about 15 kilometres south of Mostar. The Neretva flows through canals, and its tributary Buna flows into them over a travertine barrier. More than 20 endemic species live here, some of which are critically endangered. Along the Buna canals, there is a bicycle path, which enthusiasts built on the route of the old “Ćiro” railway and runs from Mostar all the way to Dubrovnik. Since 1970, the site of Buna canals has been protected by law as a natural treasure.
