Implementation of RiTour project started
Implementation of the project RiTour – “Valorisation of cultural and natural heritage through cross-border cooperation of urban tourist destinations on the Adriatic basin karst rivers”, funded by the European Union under the Interreg IPA Cross-Border Cooperation Program Croatia - Bosnia and Herzegovina - Montenegro 2014-2020, has started on 1 July 2017.
The project is implemented by the Tourist Board of HNK in cooperation with the project lead partner Public Institution RERA SD for Coordination and Development of Split Dalmatia County, and project partners: City of Solin, Public Institution for the Management of Protected Areas in the County of Split and Dalmatia “Sea and Karst", City of Mostar and Tourist organization of Podgorica.
This project with total value of 840,700.03 EUR, out of which 98,589.16 EUR for Tourist Board of HNK, aims to diversify and promote the tourism offer of urban destinations (Blagaj in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Solin in Croatia and Podgorica in Montenegro) on rivers of the Adriatic basin (river Buna in Blagaj, river Jadro in Solin and river Morača in Podgorica) through cross-border cooperation on sustainable tourism development, capacity building of service providers and through revitalization of cultural heritage and sustainable use of natural resources. This objective will be supported through application of a harmonised cross-border approach in preparation of Tourism Development Strategies on sustainable principles for each urban destination of the Adriatic basin that share common challenges and assets. TDS are a precondition for a long-term diversification of tourism offer in urban destinations on rivers and a tool for withdrawal of funds for implementation of activities including cross-border products. Such strategic documents for increasingly important sector that in our cities currently attains an annual growth of cca 20% will significantly contribute to a structured economic development considering all sociological, economic and environmental issues.
In addition RiTour project will improve existing and develop new tourism products through revitalization of 3 cultural heritage sites (Diocletian aqueduct - Split, Stjepan Grad Blagaj and Doclea - Podgorica) and sustainable use of 3 natural resources (Jadro, Buna and Morača) located in urban areas what is another precondition to further employment including self-employment in tourism sector and finally establishment of a stable and diversified tourism offer.
Within its project activities the Tourist Board shall carry out the following infrastructure works on the given site:
1. Construction of fisherman stops on the river Buna; The fisherman stop is a fishing spot (2.5x2.5 m in length, roofed), especially for fly fishing, and within the project 3 such places should be made at the following locations:
- Locality Bare
- Location near the former Bunica Recreation Center, on the River Buna,
- Locality at the mouth of the river Buna in Neretva;
2. Arranging the source area at Bare site and revitalizing the entire area;
3. Construction of a fishing trail in Blagaj, which is also a walking path near the River Buna. The trail is about 350 meters in length, it is necessary to reconstruct the supporting wall, set a low stone fence.
The project will last 30 months.
